Why Queer Yoga? There are as many reasons as there are colors in the rainbow. But here are five of them:
- Arriving together in the here and now.
- To accept things, your feelings, your body, as they are.
- Be mindful of yourself and your surroundings.
- Strengthen the body’s defenses, always so important. Breathe in deeply, breathe out deeply. Feel the body, use all the muscles, from the smallest to the largest.
- Experience the bond with each other in a group of like-minded people.
Let me take you on a journey through the world of Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga. You don’t know what to do with these terms? No problem, as a beginner I will pick you up where you are. I will guide you where it should be necessary, give you tips for easier variations and make sure that all participants do the exercises correctly.
Everyone is welcome, the offer is aimed at all LGBTQIAs* and their friends. Please come in comfortable, loose clothing and bring your own yoga mat.
What can you expect in a Queer Yoga class?
In each yoga session your chakras, muscles and tendons are activated through twisting, bending and stretching exercises of the different asanas, from the crown chakra to the tips of your toes.
I start every yoga class with pranayama, breathing exercises. The main focus of my yoga practice is Hatha Yoga: Here, various asanas (body postures) are assumed, and you then stay in them for some breaths. In some Sessions I may also be influenced by Vinyasa Yoga, which is literally about flow, the change from one position to the next, supported by the right breathing. And sometimes I also like to incorporate exercises from mobility training. At the end of each class, you can expect Savasana, the relaxation phase, which can be used for a meditation guided by me, or for your own meditation.
Admission: Pay as you wish. What does that mean? You pay what you can afford at the time. I want my Queer Yoga offer to be as accessible as possible, and I don’t want your bank balance to be an obstacle for you to pursue your Yoga practice together with the LGBTQIA* community; the Hosi Wien welcomes all donations.
Date and time: Every Sunday, but please note that dates may be subject to change, so better check before the online calendar and/or the Facebook page from the Hosi Wien!
